This project proposes the creation of a monumental sculpture inspired by Stela F of Quiriguá. With a contemporary approach that fuses Mayan iconography with elements of science fiction and futurism, the sculpture seeks to reflect on the figure of the ruler, the cult of personality, and the cyclical return of messianic leaders in times of social regression.
Unlike traditional monuments, this work is designed to be ephemeral, using recycled materials. Icons of applications (or ‘apps’) are incorporated on its sides, serving as modern glyphs that speak of place, time, systems, and connections that control the individual in contemporary technocracies.
The work seeks to challenge the permanence of monuments and provoke reflection on the recurrence of the same mistakes throughout history, symbolizing the connection between the Mayan past and current power dynamics.
