Voluspa Jarpa

Rancagua, Chile, 1971

Her artistic production has been extensive and sustained, with a focus on exploring the nature of the archive, memory, and the cultural and symbolic dimension of social trauma. This research has focused particularly on the contexts of the Cold War in Latin America. He has participated in the Havana Biennial, the Shanghai Biennial, the Mercosur Biennial, the Istanbul Biennial, the São Paulo Biennial and the Venice Biennial. His work is part of important public and private collections, including MALBA, Fundación LARA, Fundación Kadist, Colección Rabobank, Museo de Artes Visuales and Museo de Bellas Artes de Santiago, and the Blanton Museum of Art.

Construida a partir de una cartografía que entrelaza temporalidades ancestrales y actuales, este proyecto genera imágenes que cruzan mapas, cosmogonías andinas, ciudades en conflicto e infografías. Su objetivo es examinar una memoria territorial más compleja que la memoria histórica, desdibujando las fronteras geopolíticas y proponiendo un palimpsesto donde el pasado, el presente y el futuro coexisten. La obra ofrece una visión multidimensional de los conflictos sociales violentos que afectan la zona andina desde 2018, abordados desde una temporalidad que atraviesa el prehispánico, lo colonial, la guerra fría y la contemporaneidad.

Built on cartography that intertwines ancestral and contemporary temporalities, this project generates images that cross maps, Andean cosmogonies, cities in conflict, and infographics. Its objective is to examine a territorial memory that is more complex than historical memory, blurring geopolitical boundaries and proposing a palimpsest where the past, present, and future coexist. The work offers a multidimensional view of the violent social conflicts that have affected the Andean region since 2018, approached from a temporality that spans the pre-hispanic, colonial, Cold War, and contemporary periods.
